Introduction to Haribo Sweets

Haribo sweets have become one of the most iconic confectionery brands in the world, loved for their bright colours, fun shapes and unbeatable chewy texture. From Goldbears to Starmix, Tangfastics and Supermix, Haribo has built a range that appeals to children, families and nostalgic adults alike. What started as a small kitchen operation in Germany has grown into a global giant with factories across several countries including the UK. Their ability to balance flavour, texture and imagination is what keeps Haribo at the top of the sweets market.

History of the Haribo Brand

Haribo was founded in 1920 by Hans Riegel in Bonn. The name comes from HA for Hans, RI for Riegel and BO for Bonn. Working with basic equipment and simple ingredients, he created the early versions of what would become the famous gummy sweets. In 1922 he produced the first gummy bear, originally called the Dancing Bear, which became the foundation for the modern Haribo Goldbear.

The brand grew steadily through the 1930s and post war years. After Hans Riegel passed away, his sons took over and rebuilt the company. Haribo continued to expand across Europe and later the rest of the world. In 1986 they acquired the Maoam brand, adding chewy sweets to their growing catalogue. Today Haribo remains a family owned company and one of the biggest confectionery manufacturers on the planet.
