What Makes a Sweet Vegan?

The biggest culprits are gelatine (made from animal bones and connective tissue), beeswax (used as a glazing agent), carmine (a red colouring made from insects), and certain milk derivatives.

Vegan sweets swap these out for plant-based alternatives. Gelatine gets replaced with pectin or starch. Beeswax is swapped for carnauba wax, which comes from palm leaves. Colours come from fruit and vegetable concentrates. The result is a sweet that tastes just as good, made without animal products.
